Each building is ranked #1โ€“18 for every metric. Ranks are weighted and summed. Lowest total score wins โ€” like golf.

For each metric, rank all 18 buildings. Best = #1. Ties share ranks.
2. Weight
Multiply rank by metric weight ร— category weight.
3. Sum
Add all weighted ranks across all 21 metrics.
4. Rank
Lowest total score = #1 overall.

Best possible: 1.00 (ranked #1 in everything) ยท Worst possible: 18.00

This calculation runs across all 21 metrics. All contributions are summed. The building with the lowest total wins.

Why does #1 everywhere = a perfect score of 1.00?
All category weights add up to 100% (26+20+14+12+10+10+8). Within each category, metric weights also add up to 100%. So when you multiply everything out across all 21 metrics, the weights sum to exactly 1.00. A building ranked #1 on every metric scores: 1 ร— 1.00 = 1.00. Ranked #2 everywhere = 2.00. Ranked #9 everywhere = 9.00. The rank number scales directly because the weights always sum to 1.

In practice no building is #1 on everything โ€” real scores typically fall between 5 and 13.

SCORING & RANKINGS
Q Why did my rank change even though my metrics didn't change much?
Rankings are relative โ€” you're being compared to all 17 other buildings. If another building improved, your rank can drop even if your own numbers stayed the same. Think of it like a race: you can run the same speed and still fall back if others run faster.
Q Can two buildings have the same rank?
Yes. If two buildings have the same weighted score (rounded to 2 decimal places), they share the same rank and the next rank is skipped. Two buildings tied at #3 means the next building is ranked #5 โ€” there is no #4.
Q What's the best possible score and what does a competitive score look like?
The theoretical best is 1.00 (ranked #1 on every metric). The worst possible is 18.00. In practice scores range between 5 and 13. A score below 7 puts you in contention for top 3. Above 10 means there's meaningful work to do.

Q How often is the dashboard updated?
Monthly as new data becomes available. Most metrics update each month. QM Star Rating, Discharge Functional %, and Turnover % update quarterly through CMS. The month in the top right corner reflects the most current data loaded.
Q What happens if a building is missing data for a metric?
If all 18 buildings are missing data, that metric is excluded from scoring entirely. If only some are missing, those buildings receive a default rank of 9 โ€” middle of the pack โ€” neither rewarded nor penalized.
Q Why is my Skilled Mix showing lower than what I see in Megadata?
The Regatta uses a YTD average โ€” not your current month's number. If Skilled Mix was lower earlier in the year, the average is pulled down even if your current month is higher. Check Building Detail for the monthly trail below each metric.
METHODOLOGY
Q Does a bad month early in the year hurt me all year?
It does, but less and less over time. A bad January counts as 1/7 of your score by July โ€” and 1/12 by December. The averaging naturally dilutes early months as the year progresses. Getting back on track quickly matters โ€” every good month pulls the average up.
Q Which metrics have the biggest impact on my score?
The top metrics by combined weight:

1. Medicare Census % โ€” 8.0% of total score
2. Health Inspections โ€” 7.8%
3. Bad Debt % โ€” 7.0%
4. Rehospitalization % โ€” 6.5%
5. Occupancy %, Skilled Mix, Worker Safety โ€” 6.0% each

Google Rating is the lowest at 0.8%.
PRACTICAL
Q How do I know which metric to focus on to move my rank?
Go to the Category Rankings tab and look at where your building ranks worst. The fastest wins come from metrics where you rank poorly AND the metric carries high weight. Medicare Census %, Health Inspections, and Bad Debt % move the needle most. Use Building Detail to see your monthly trail.
Q If I improve from #10 to #5 on one metric, how much does that move my overall score?
It depends on the metric's weight. For Medicare Census % (8% of total): moving from #10 to #5 saves 5 ร— 0.08 = 0.40 points. The gap between #1 and #2 overall in June 2026 was only 0.07 points โ€” so 0.40 is a significant swing. For Google Rating (0.8%): the same improvement saves only 0.04 points. Focus your energy where the weight is.

Q How is the Worker Safety Score calculated?
Two components from the Workers Comp report (Lori's log) each month:

1. Open Claims Count โ€” Fewest = 0, most = 100, others scaled in between.
2. Dollars Tied Up โ€” Same: lowest = 0, highest = 100.

Averaged together to capture both risk of occurrence and cost exposure. Higher = better.
Q Why do some metrics feel out of date? Moderate LagHeavy Lag
Discharge Functional % Heavy Lag โ€” As of July 2026, data window is Oct 1, 2024 โ€“ Sep 30, 2025. Up to 9 months behind.

Turnover % Moderate Lag โ€” CMS updates quarterly using a rolling 12-month PBJ window, 45-day lag. Typically 4-6 months behind.

QM Star Rating Moderate Lag โ€” Updated quarterly, typically 3-4 months behind.
